Why This Screen

Pro-grade, piece by piece

Designed for Rooms with Ambient Light

Designed for Rooms with Ambient Light

Not every simulator room is a blacked-out cave. The High-Contrast Gray Impact Screen is specifically engineered for spaces where ambient light is a factor — garages, basements with windows, bonus rooms, or any area that isn't completely dark.

The gray surface rejects ambient light while maintaining rich, deep blacks that white screens simply cannot deliver in lit environments.

Superior Contrast Ratio

Superior Contrast Ratio

The secret is in the gray surface. While white screens wash out in anything more than complete darkness, the High-Contrast Gray delivers a dramatically better contrast ratio — deeper blacks, richer colors, and a more cinematic viewing experience.

Your simulator software, courses, and shot data will look noticeably sharper and more vibrant, even with the lights on.

No Blackout Room Required

No Blackout Room Required

One of the biggest challenges in building a golf simulator is controlling light. The High-Contrast Gray screen eliminates the need for expensive blackout curtains, window treatments, or dedicated dark rooms.

Play with the garage door cracked, the basement lights on, or in a room with natural light — and still get a great projected image.

Premium-Grade Construction

Premium-Grade Construction

The High-Contrast Gray uses the same heavy-duty woven construction as Carl's Place premium screens — tight weave, thick material, and reinforced edges. It's built to absorb the hardest driver swings while delivering a smooth, consistent projection surface.

Quiet ball impact, long lifespan, and the best image quality in less-than-ideal lighting — all in one screen.

Sharper visuals. Better contrast. Play comfortably in real-world lighting.

The High-Contrast Gray Impact Screen is designed for golfers who want consistent, immersive visuals without turning their simulator room into a blackout cave.

By reducing washout and enhancing contrast, this screen delivers a clearer, more realistic image—whether you’re practicing midweek or hosting friends for a full round.

Built for Modern Simulator Spaces

Unlike traditional white screens, the gray surface absorbs excess ambient light, helping projected images appear deeper and more defined.

  1. Ambient Light Optimized The high-contrast gray finish improves image clarity even when the room isn’t perfectly dark.
  2. 3-Layer Impact Construction The same durable three-layer gray-knit polyester build as the Premium screen, designed to withstand repeated ball strikes.
  3. Improved Contrast & Depth Enhanced blacks and mid-tones reduce visual fatigue during longer sessions.
  4. Flexible Sizing Options Multiple size choices make it easy to match your enclosure or custom frame.

Your Simulator, Without Compromise

You step into your simulator room after work, lights on, windows uncovered—and the image still pops.

Fairways look richer, greens are easier to read, and the entire setup feels deliberate and premium.

Instead of adjusting your room around the screen, the High-Contrast Gray Impact Screen fits seamlessly into your routine.

  • Long-Term Durability Multi-layer construction built for repeated, high-speed impacts.

Carl's Place High Contrast Gray screen in full enclosure setup

A high quality impact screen makes a repeated difference in your enjoyment of playing sim golf. I’m going on my 6th year of using one of their impact screens — quiet on impact, balls drop softly with minimal bounce-back.

Carl's Place High Contrast Gray screen with driving range displayed

It is flat as a board, the weave looks nice — sound is nothing that made me think about it, which is good. Excellent bounce back for a premium screen.

The Fine Print

Details & requirements

The Carl's Place High-Contrast Gray Impact Screen is the only non-white screen in the Carl's Place lineup — designed specifically for simulators in rooms with ambient light. The gray surface delivers dramatically better contrast ratios, deeper blacks, and richer colors than white screens in non-darkened environments. No blackout room required. Built with premium-grade woven polyester construction for maximum durability and the quietest ball impact.

Screen Features

Why Gray?

Gray projection surfaces have been used in home theater for years to combat ambient light. The principle is simple: a gray surface absorbs more ambient light than a white one, which means the projected image maintains deeper blacks and richer contrast even in lit environments.

For golf simulators in garages, basements, or multipurpose rooms, this is a game-changer. You get a usable image without total darkness.

Screen Material & Construction

The High-Contrast Gray uses a premium-weight woven polyester with Carl's Place proprietary gray finish. The tight weave ensures a smooth projection surface while the material thickness provides excellent impact absorption and sound dampening.

Same commercial-grade construction as the premium white screens — just optimized for ambient light environments.

Projection Performance

The gray surface excels where white screens struggle:

  • Ambient light — maintains contrast when room isn't fully dark
  • Deep blacks — dark areas of the image stay dark, not washed-out gray
  • Color accuracy — rich, saturated colors even with some room light
  • Reduced eye strain — less harsh reflection in extended sessions

For best results, pair with a projector rated 3,000+ lumens to offset the gray surface's natural light absorption.

Projector Pairing

Because the gray surface absorbs more light than white, you'll want a brighter projector to compensate. We recommend:

  • Minimum: 2,500 lumens for darker rooms
  • Recommended: 3,000–4,000+ lumens for rooms with ambient light
  • Ideal: 4K laser projector with 3,500+ lumens for the ultimate experience

The tradeoff is worth it — the contrast improvement far outweighs the minor brightness reduction.

How It Compares

The High-Contrast Gray is the only non-white screen in the Carl's Place lineup. Here's how it stacks up:

  • Standard (White) — Budget-friendly, bright, needs dark room
  • Preferred (White) — Better durability and noise, needs dark room
  • Premium (White) — Best white screen overall, needs dark room
  • High-Contrast Gray — Best for ambient light, superior contrast, no blackout needed

Grommets & Mounting

Ships with reinforced grommets along the edges for secure attachment to your enclosure frame. Compatible with bungee cords, zip ties, or hooks.

The grommet spacing is designed to work with Carl's Place enclosure kits and most standard simulator frames.

Care & Maintenance

Tips to keep your screen looking great:

  1. Use clean, white golf balls without dirt or grass stains
  2. Clean your clubs regularly to prevent marks on the screen
  3. Store the screen in a clean, dry place if removed
  4. Avoid keeping it folded for extended periods to prevent creases
  5. The front side (with Carl's Place logo) faces the golfer — only this side is rated for impact
