Carl's Place DIY Golf Enclosure Kit assembles in about an hour — no special tools or skills required. The kit includes everything you need to build a safe, enclosed hitting bay in your garage, basement, or spare room.

Watch the full assembly walkthrough to see how simple the setup really is. A helper makes it even faster, but it's absolutely doable solo.

Your Personal Indoor Golf Bay

Your Personal Indoor Golf Bay

Transform any room into a dedicated golf simulator space. The DIY Enclosure Kit includes an impact screen, black nylon side enclosure, steel fittings, and zip ties — giving you a clean, professional-looking hitting bay.

Note: 1-inch EMT pipes for the frame are not included and need to be sourced separately. A cut sheet with exact measurements is included with every order so you can purchase pipes locally and cut them to the proper length. An optional pre-cut Pipe Framing Kit is also available.

Whether you're converting a spare room, basement, or garage, the enclosure creates a focused practice environment that keeps stray shots contained and your projected image looking sharp.

Complete Garage Setup

Complete Garage Setup

The DIY Enclosure Kit is designed to fit standard garage spaces. Pair it with optional side baffles for added protection and a cleaner look. The black nylon enclosure blocks out light and distractions, creating an immersive simulator experience.

Available in multiple sizes — from compact setups to full-width bays — so you can match the enclosure to your exact space dimensions.

Optional Baffles for Extra Protection

Optional Baffles for Extra Protection

Add side baffles to your enclosure for an extra layer of safety. Baffles catch off-target shots before they reach the side walls, protecting your space and equipment.

Easy to attach to the existing frame, baffles give you peace of mind during full swings — especially with drivers and long irons where mis-hits are more common.

Pre-Cut Pipe Framing Kit

Pre-Cut Pipe Framing Kit

Skip the hardware store measuring and cutting. The optional Pipe Framing Kit ships with pre-cut, perfectly sized 1-inch EMT pipes that match your enclosure dimensions exactly.

Each kit is custom cut to match your order. Just connect the pipes to the included steel fittings and you'll have a sturdy, square frame ready for the enclosure fabric in minutes.

Safety Net Walls

Safety Net Walls

Add net walls to the sides and top of your enclosure for maximum ball containment. Net walls catch errant shots that might otherwise escape through gaps, protecting walls, ceilings, and everything around your simulator bay.

A smart addition for aggressive swingers or households where safety is a top priority. Easy to install on the existing frame alongside the enclosure fabric.

Pleased with the product and with the company.

Stre Via Golf Simulator Forum

This simulator is as good as any commercial one I’ve hit on that costs 10x more. It only took a couple hours to build from start to finish.

Ryan Heiman Via Independent Golf Reviews

The 1” EMT pipes are manageable — I sourced them from Home Depot. Solo setup is doable. For the money it’s hard to beat.

Setup & Space Requirements

Space Requirements

When planning your golf simulator space, account for:

  • Hitting Distance — Stand a minimum of 10–12 feet from the impact screen
  • Ceiling Height — Enough clearance to complete a full swing with your longest club (typically 9–10 feet minimum)
  • Side Clearance — Buffer space on both sides so mis-hits don't contact walls
  • Projector Placement — Factor in projector throw distance based on your screen size

Use our Projector Calculator to determine the best projector mounting location for your setup.

Frame & Construction

The enclosure mounts on a frame built from 1-inch EMT (Electrical Metal Tubing/Conduit). This is standard electrical conduit available at any hardware store.

Two frame options:

  • DIY — Purchase EMT pipes locally and cut to size. The kit includes steel fittings and instructions.
  • Pipe Framing Kit — Add Carl's pre-cut pipe kit to your order for perfectly sized, ready-to-assemble pipes.

Assembly takes approximately 1 hour with basic tools. No welding, drilling, or permanent modifications required.

Frequently Asked Questions
How far away should I stand from my impact screen?

For the safety of both the golfer and the screen, we recommend standing a minimum of 10–12 feet away from the impact screen.

What is the difference between Carl’s Enclosure Kits?

Carl’s DIY Golf Enclosure Kit offers an easy, entry-level way to build a safe place to swing your clubs. An affordable, convenient kit, the DIY Enclosure Kit helps home golfers take the guesswork out of building a golf simulator. The Pro Enclosure kits offer premium features including heavier-duty construction and more customization options.

How much space do I need for the enclosure?

When measuring for a golf simulator, make sure you take into account buffer space — you don’t want your golf simulator right up next to any walls or ceiling. Balls that contact walls or ceiling can cause damage. Allow at least 10–12 feet from the hitting position to the screen, plus enough ceiling height for a full swing (typically 9–10 feet minimum).

What pipes do I need to construct the enclosure frame?

The DIY Golf Simulator Enclosures require 1-inch EMT (Electrical Metal Tubing/Conduit). You can buy EMT pipes at your local hardware store and cut them to size, or add a Pipe Framing Kit to your order to get pre-cut, perfectly sized pipes matched to your enclosure dimensions.

How long does it take to assemble the enclosure?

DIY Golf Simulator Enclosure Kits assemble in about an hour, depending on the size. It goes a bit faster if you have a helper. An assembly video and manual are included for reference.

When will my enclosure ship?

Carl’s Place enclosure kits are made to order — each one is measured, sewn, and packed perfectly before shipping. Because of this custom process, production typically takes 1–2 weeks before shipping. You’ll receive tracking information via email once your order ships.

Can I iron or steam my golf impact screen?

We do NOT recommend ironing your golf screen — it is very easy to damage the screen material. Wrinkles and fold marks from shipping will naturally fall out over time with use. Hanging the screen and allowing gravity to do the work is the safest approach.

Can I wash my golf screen material?

For cleaning your golf impact screen, use a damp cloth with mild soap and gently wipe the surface. Avoid harsh chemicals, machine washing, or abrasive scrubbing. Check Carl’s Place support articles for detailed cleaning recommendations.

What if the black enclosure material gets hit with a golf ball?

The enclosure material is not designed to take a direct hit from a golf ball. However, if you hit the white impact screen and the ball bounces back and contacts the enclosure, you should not experience any issues. For added protection, consider adding side baffles or net walls.

Can I get a replacement screen for the enclosure?

Yes — replacement screens are available to save you money versus buying a full new kit. Contact us at team@golfingsim.com and we’ll arrange a replacement screen for you.

Are there safety concerns when using a golf simulator?

We want your indoor golf setup to be fun, help improve your game, and be safe for everyone. Follow the assembly manual provided with your enclosure, keep children and pets at a safe distance during use, and make sure your enclosure is properly secured to the frame. Standing the recommended 10–12 feet from the screen provides adequate safety margin.

What are EMT pipes?

EMT stands for Electrical Metal Tubing, also known as Electrical Metal Conduit. These are lightweight, affordable steel pipes commonly available at hardware and home improvement stores. The DIY Enclosure Kit uses 1-inch EMT to build the frame that supports the enclosure fabric and impact screen.

Can you make a custom size golf simulator enclosure?

Yes! Carl’s Place can customize enclosures down to the inch. Choose the size of enclosure and screen that fits your space. Please review measurements carefully before ordering and check the returns policy for custom products.

Where and how should I mount my projector?

Projector specifications determine the maximum image size and how far from the screen it needs to be mounted. Use our Projector Calculator to find the best mounting location. Most ceiling-mounted projectors work well, and short-throw projectors can be placed closer to the screen for smaller rooms.

Do I need to use a golf hitting mat?

A golf hitting mat gives you a cushioned surface to stand and swing on, protecting your joints from impact during your swing. It also provides a more realistic golf practice experience with a grass-like surface. While not strictly required, a quality hitting mat is strongly recommended for comfort and longevity of your setup.
